New Year, New Goals

Yesterday, Nate and I drove home from Portland, OR. It was about a 20 hour drive. We had lots of time to make our New Year's goals.

We did not have lots of paper.

In fact, we only had a white board and a pink dry erase marker.

It was actually quite refreshing to write my goals on a dry erase board - if I didn't like them a little later, I could erase them, and no one would ever know!

However, in an attempt to better stick to my goals, I've decided to post my white board goals, irrevocably, to the Internet.

Here they are:

  1. Use electric toothbrush. I've always had one - and never used it. I much prefer manually moving that brush around. However, my dental hygienist told me to use my electric one. It's better for my teeth. Happy New Year, teeth.
  2. Write a thank you card weekly - if you get a thank you card from me this year, know I am truly grateful and not just crossing off my goal. :-)
  3. Pass NCLEX - the nursing boards. The last step. The final frontier. Yay!
  4. Send birthday cards out each month, on time, to all family members. How do grandmas DO this?!? I'm about to find out...
  5. Buy a houseplant.
  6. Keep houseplant alive. This is easier said than done. When Nate and I were engaged we took a marriage prep class. As an assignment, we were given a seed and told to help it grow. It was supposed to represent our marriage. We killed it. And its replacement. And the 2 replacements after that. On our 5th seed our teacher told us this was our last chance. We took it to the campus greenhouse and had them grow it for us down there. Don't worry, our marriage didn't turn out like our seed. Hopefully our new houseplant won't either.
  7.  Floss. I hate you floss. I love you, teeth. Happy New Year.
  8. Get a job in postpartum or OR. I have decided to be picky and only accept a job I am going to like. I might take awhile...
  9. Recycle. I've already washed off our recycling bins which were very dirty and being used as shelves in our garage. And I already put a bottle in the bin. Go me, I'm saving the world!
  10. And because I couldn't end my goals on the number 9, I've decided to create an app this year, and sell it for lots of $$$
This is the first year in like, 10 years that my goal list does not include,

"Read all chapters when they are assigned, not the night before the midterm.

I never did fully achieve that goal, in all those years. Oh well. Now I can really focus on the important goals. Like recycling :-)

PS - goals to be reevaluated between 12/27 and 12/31 this year.
(if the world doesn't end)

PSS - Nate made goals too, but he didn't want his to be written in pink marker.
His goals were too manly for that.

I'm glad to see you're being picky about your job. It makes me feel better for being a job snob. Let's make a resolution to see each other this year. We're coming through Vegas in July...

ok so i took that marriage class last semester!! brother richardson?? my plant died, then i got a new seed. then it grew about .02 centimeters, then died the day after it was due. major blessing! glad to hear real life marriage is not similar to growing that blasted seed.

ps- love you blog!! keep posting cousin!

Glad you made it home safely. Awesome goals. I can't wait for that thank you card--ha ha! I guess I better do something nice for you first. Did you make the recycling goal after being in Oregon?! We must have inspired you with how "green" we are:). p.s. Nate, don't you know that pink is very manly these days?!

Good for you for only taking a job you'll actually like. Stick to your guns...it will be worth the wait (assuming you'll have to wait).

I was just about to whine and get mad at you for not visiting us when you drove within 2 hours of where we live. Then I realized that I wasn't even here :). Like your goals. I like "I wonder what happened to Amelia Earhart" even better.
