As I grew up, I began to see cracks in his armor. My mom asking for months when the dryer was going to be fixed... my high school car ALWAYS needing an oil change... and I realized... he can't fix everything, he just THINKS he can! And there is no way in the world he's ever going to PAY anyone to fix anything that he thinks he can fix himself.
My brother helped me realize where he learned it with his comic about my dad's dad:

It might be an admirable trait; resilient, tough and manly, self-sufficient, seemingly frugal....
That is, until your dishwasher breaks, and you realize your dad and grandpa aren't the only ones with that trait...
...and instead of calling a dishwasher repairman, who, as a matter of fact, fixes dishwashers for a living, your husband decides to take your dishwasher apart....
... and I just realized that among the tools for taking the dishwasher apart is our fondue fork. Awesome.
You boys might be able to fool little girls, but I'm a grown woman! And I know for a fact neither Nate nor my dad has ever seen the innards of a dishwasher. And no matter how much they discuss the matter over the phone, they still won't know how to fix it.
I hope he gives up soon...the dishes are starting to pile up...
(don't judge. I did the dishes. gosh.)
