This fact has caused many new rules in our house (hence, Nate's unhappiness). Absolutely NO shoes, ANYWHERE. When you touch anything, you must wash your hands before touching me (that applies specifically to Nate). Bleach the counters and sink after every meal. Bleach the bathroom several times a week. No coughing when others are around. Same with sneezing -leave the room. Travel size bag of tissues in every pocket. And so on.
Serving in the nursery has become somewhat of a germ nightmare for me. I watch the kids sneeze all over the place, drool, cry, spit, cough... bodily fluids flying r
ampant throughout the air.
(*Sidenote* Guess what I do with crying children? I take them into the nursery bathroom and let them wash their hands. They love it! I love it! No more crying, and clean hands! Free tip to all the other nursery leaders out there - you're welcome. :-) )
Anyway, since for some reason wearing a face mask is against some sort of social norm, I have resorted to hand sanitizer during nursery and a shower immediately following. And I can cope.
That is until YESTERDAY.
One normally noisy girl was suspiciously quiet during snack time. At first I was relieved, until a weird look crossed her face. Just as she turned toward another nursery child, I snatched her up and ran her to the trash can. I saved the other nursery child. I did not save myself.
Mushy fruit loops and chunky gold-fish spewed from her mouth and nose onto my clothes. I held her over the trash until a break in vomit, then ran with her to the bathroom, where she continued her germy antics. Poor little girl.
Finally her mom came and relieved me of this duty. I cleaned up as best as I could and headed back to nursery.
Just in time to receive a big juicy sneeze, right in my face from another kid.
Gotta love the nursery. :-)

P.S.... sneeze juices can stay in the air for several minutes after you sneeze them. Food for thought :-)

This will be the last time I read your blog while eating breakfast.
Lovely...I'm sure that girl's mom was mortified. I would be. I guess you won't be changing your major to be a preschool teacher any time soon, huh??
Gag. Ever since I had a baby...I am a major germaphobe. In order to maintain my sanity. I just avoid human contact all together. Glad you and Nate are doing well, we miss you guys!
